RADIOGRAPHY (RT)

This is probably the best known and most widely used method of non-destructive testing. Developed over the course of many years, radiography provides a reliable method of detecting flaws in a wide range of product types including welds, castings, structures and composites.

It is employed predominantly in the fabricating and casting industries for quality control, and will reveal defects such as porosity, inclusions and cracks.

Radiography is a very adaptable method of testing and can be used both in our laboratory facilities and on-site after authorisation from the HSE.
In our laboratory facilities we have a total of 9 exposure bays with x-ray capabilities up to 320kV and gamma capabilities up to 60 Curies of Iridium 192 and 20 Curies of Cobalt 60 with overhead crane up to 5 tons.

  Typical applications:
Welds in pressure vessels, pipelines and structures
Castings in the ‘as cast’ or machined condition
Riveted seams where cracking may be suspected
Butt welds in chains and lifting gear
Composite materials
